Legendary Montana Angler Bud Lilly Passes at 91

Bud Lilly is probably one of the most well known fly fishing guides and anglers in Montana and across the US. He is well known for guiding famous figures such as Dan Rather on his home waters near Yellowstone.

But what many don't know is that he was a major force in bringing catch and release fishing to the West. He began promoting this form of conservation and protection in the 1950's long before it became widely accepted as the norm for fly fishermen and fisherwomen to handle their fish with care and return them to the water.
